My sister in law uses this as a feeding chair, and my 6 month old niece absolutely loves it.

 "Good for baby" 2009-05-21
By B. J. Morris (Covington, GA United States)
I bought my Bumbo for my oldest daughter, and it's proven invaluable for both babies.

I'm not the kind of mom to use my Bumbo in place of supervision. That's what the Pack-N-Play is for. :) So, all this talk of it being harmful to your child's spine is kind of ridiculous, IMO. I primarily used my Bumbo to feed my child, worked much better than the high chair we tried to use, because there was no sliding down the seat, not slipping from side to side, etc.

There were times when I needed to set the baby down for a moment, but she was crawling (my oldest walked at 9 months, so the Bumbo was pretty useless at that point) and wouldn't stay in one spot. The Bumbo was a great way to keep the baby still in one spot while I did something that wouldn't let me watch her closely. Like while I was preparing dinner, she could sit on the Bumbo on the countertop (wide counter, she was next to the wall, about 2.5 feet from the edge) while I did my thing about a foot away. It allowed me the chance to spend time with her while I did things I had to do.

I've done an exhaustive search on Google, but I've not seen a single site where a *doctor* (zealous website authors don't count as doctors, just as spreaders of urban legend in some cases) recomended against using a Bumbo. I've had several different pediatricians (group practice), and none has ever told me to discontinue use of the Bumbo. I think they actually appreciated me taking it along, since holding the baby still makes for a faster exam!

 "lower the price please?" 2009-01-19
By S. J. Gallardo (pasadena, CA)
These seats are great but way too expensive. It's not made of diamonds for goodness sake and you can only use it for a certain short period of time. If you have a big fat baby, you can't use it at all--her chubby legs will be too big for the leg holes. And once your baby learns to sit on her own, you don't need it at all, so the cost is almost $10/month.

It is very sturdy and the colors are cute. They make great hand-me-downs as they stand up to a lot of use. If you know someone who owns one but doesn't need it anymore, maybe they'll pass it on to you. I don't see why not.

"The Bumbo is fabulous! " 2008-05-05
By A. M. Baca-Perea
My baby loves her Bumbo! It really helps her to sit up and get to know her surroundings without using pillows, etc. to prop her up. I also feel more at ease using the Bumbo opposed to pillows, because I know that she won't slump over. Although this item is a pit pricey, I would definitely recommend this product to others.

"Bumbo seat not only a waste of money, it is dangerous to your baby's developing spine" 2008-04-13
By A.nonymous (United States)
I was given a Bumbo seat for my third son. I have never been one to like baby things that took up a lot of space with little purpose and even shorter lifespan, but she had elaborated how great it was so I accepted it happily.

It was uncomfortable for my son, first and foremost. Much like a "One size fits all" type clothing item, it was more like "one size never fits right". If it fit in the legs, the body part was too big, and when the body fit it was too tight in the legs.

Then I mentioned it to my doctor. It got a big THUMBS DOWN. A baby's spine should not be forced to support its own weight before it is capable, and that is basically what this seat is doing. Later, when the baby can support itself, he or she should be learning balance and sitting, this seat simply encourages them to do nothing.

On top of it not fitting well, and being bad for their spine, it is simply a space taker with no purpose. Want to feed your baby? sit them in a high chair. Chances are if they have to be forced to sit in this to eat they are not ready to be supporting themselves or be fed in that way.

I would encourage anyone interested in this item to do something more useful and enjoyable with the money-something that couldn't potentially harm their baby's development.
